Blessings for Baby Keepsake Book DIY

Wishes for baby book and fairy dust party favors

If you have read my baby related posts you know that I was super-duper excited for the arrival of my gorgeous niece. I made the baby shower invitations, some cute Pixie dust party favor necklaces, and this Blessings for baby keepsake book.

Guest Instructions

Everyone at the shower was given a colorful, lined cardstock page, cut slightly smaller than the book binding. (I don’t have a photo or link for the inserts but if I find it I will add it to the post.) The guests wrote a wish, sentiment, or advice for the mommy-to-be and baby girl. I collected all the pages and placed  them in this handmade book as a memento of everyone who celebrated and their blessing for the mommy and baby. On with the DIY!

Covering the Book Jacket

I started by cutting two pieces of chipboard 6″ x 9″. A cardboard box would also work. I used scrapbook paper in coordinating colors to cover the front and back book jackets . I cut two pieces of floral paper to cover a little more than half way down the outside of both the front and back covers. Leave a 1 1/2″ to 2″ border to fold to the inside. I used a glue runner to secure it to the outside of each cover. Flip the covers over and glue the edges down. It has a cleaner finish if you cut the paper corners off diagonally before gluing the tabs down. Repeat the steps with the striped paper on the bottom of the jackets. Layer it slightly over the floral pattern.

Embellishing the Book Jacket

I added a piece of sheer lacy ribbon across the center of the binding where the two patterned papers met and secured it in the inside of the covers with the glue runner. I printed out a label that said ” Blessings for Baby, Andrea’s Baby Shower, and the date of the shower”. I cut it out using my CuttleBug and a cutting die then stamped it with a couple of fairies. I layered the tag on a rectangle piece of cardstock in a complimentary color and added rhinestone embellishment to the four corners. I placed a pretty cardstock flower on the bottom of the front cover using sticky foam tabs to make the flower stand out from the book.

On the back binding I used some cute flower stickers and placed a strip of cardstock along the outer edge with my niece’s name stamped vertically.

Decorating the Inside of the Covers

For the inside covers I cut 2 pieces of scrapbook paper about 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2 “. Center them and glue them down. I cut a scalloped trim from the floral paper and attached it to the bottom of both of the inside covers then used stamps to add extra flair.

Binding the Book

I marked the ends of both of the covers for 3 holes to attach rings. Make sure the holes will line upon the front and back cover or the book will look wonky. I used a heavy-duty Cropadile to punch the holes but you can carefully use something sharp to create the holes with a twisting drill motion.

Assemble the two covers and insert pages together with the clamp rings. Tie a bunch of different colored and textured ribbons to each ring. Cut the ribbons 3 to 4 inches in length.
